Mile Stones

We have already built a small system that is able to stream video and pictures from a mobile phone to a PC through a Bluetooth connection. It is possible to remote control the system from the PC and decides when it is going to take pictures and start and stop the video stream.

Currently active milestones:

• Build a small program on the PC that is able to read data from the RS-232 port and stream it through a Bluetooth Connection to a mobile phone. (Done)

Our goal is to let the sensor communicate directly to the mobile phone through Bluetooth. However, because none of the sensors have Bluetooth at the moment we will start by letting the PC with both Bluetooth and RS-232 connectors act as a RS232 -> Bluetooth gateway. When this mile stone is implemented we should be able to stream data from a RS232 sensor e.g. Berkeley Mode or Fall Detection Sensor to the mobile phone. And the mobile phone will then be able to transmit these data to the Home Health System.

• Replace the RS-232 to Bluetooth PC with an embedded module.(Done)

The only reason to use the PC as a gateway is to be able to test a prototype of the system. However, we hope to be able to replace the PC with an embedded Bluetooth Module.

• Build a mobile interface to the Home Health System. (Done)

As part of the project we will also try to build a mobile client to the system based on a Nokia 9500 Communicator which will allow the healthcare provider to respond to alarms from the Home Health Server without having to find wired desktop computers.

• Building sensor.(Done)

This project is not aiming at developing new sensors, but it relies on a set of sensors. Therefore it is a milestone that some sensors are developed or purchased for use in the project

Hardware

For the project we are working with the following hardware:

Borrowed or purchased:
• 2 x Berkeley Motes (one with USB)
• 2 x Laptops
• 3 x Windows XP compatible Bluetooth dongles
• 1 x Nokia 9500 Phone with Keyboard

To be purchased for the project
• 2-3 x Bluetooth to RS-232 toolkits
• 2-3 x Nokia 6080 Phones with two cameras
